Howdy, stranger!

Welcome to my cabin in the woods!

This site is dedicated to (web) development with IBM Collaborative Solutions (esp. IBM Notes/Domino and XPages), work, life and other stuff I may find important enough to write about. The rules are simple: if it fits in here I post it - and you are invited to comment on that if you like.

iPadOS - some impressions

Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 9:00 PM UTC
I installed the first public beta of iPadOS (aka iOS 13) on my iPad Pro 9.7 to test it. The first wave was a bit disappointing due to crashes and some apps not working with it (e.g. Evernote). I really enjoyed the dark mode though. The new „Today“ widget wasnĖ‹t one of the favorite things. It seems a bit strange to have something else on the desktops other than apps or groups. At least [...]

Going Pro. Big Pro.

Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 8:00 PM UTC
I am using my iPad Pro 9.7 from 2016 for several years now and I love it. I got it in 2017 when I extended my contract with my mobile carrier. At this time I didn‘t need a new phone so I grabbed the iPad. Now as this baby has been paid in full and also got outdated I thought it was time to upgrade. My carrier offered the 12.9“ iPad Pro from 2018 even 50 bucks cheaper than you can or [...]

It's summer time - build your own smart thermometer

Friday, July 5, 2019 at 4:23 PM UTC
During the past days I played around with another Raspberry Pi project. I love this little computer which is so versatile! I built a thermometer / hygrometer with a Pi 2 for testing and today with a Pi Zero W using the sensor DHT22. I bought a pre-built sensor that includes the 4.7kOhm resistor already on a stable PCB and also comes with a pre-configured 3-wire cable to connect it to the GP [...]

Sunday, 37°C and a move to a renitent Domino server

Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 5:43 PM UTC
Time was up to update my LE certificate for the Domino web server. Unfortunately Letsencrypt needs a more modern OS than I had to offer, even when trying to do it manually and without LE4D. I already had a Domino V10 installed on another host with CentOS, so I just had to change DNS entries and also some internet sites. Those were causing the first trouble for me: they weren’t doing anyth [...]

#EngageUG 2019 - Wednesday

Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 12:01 AM UTC
Today we had our session about the NERD stuff in the afternoon. Before that the day was also packed with sessions and talks at our booth. My highlights were the Domino on Docker Bootcamp done by Daniel Nashed and Thomas Hampel and the Node.js session by Heiko Voigt and Graham Acres. We feared that our session would interfere a bit but it turned out they had a different focus and our session j [...]
